Ex-election campaign consultant mocks Lindner: Shrunk into a Swabian housewife

The former campaign advisor to FDP leader Christian Lindner does not believe in a comeback of the Liberals under their chairman. “I can’t imagine that Lindner can successfully restart the FDP, he has already had three restarts,” said Christian Labonté in an interview with “Stern”.

“Screaming neon yellow, magenta and lots of hashtags – that’s what the FDP looked like in the election campaign,” Labonté continued. “It’s always a problem when advertising promises more than the product can deliver.” It’s the same with the FDP. Her appearance was “much bolder than her government policy.”

Labonté also mocked Lindner himself, who was fired as finance minister by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) a few days ago after the traffic light coalition broke up: “Christian Lindner has shrunk from the Steve Jobs of liberalism to a Swabian housewife who is very petty Money looks, but doesn’t even dare to tell her husband to slow down a bit on the highway.”

The campaign consultant brought European politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann into play as the new FDP chairwoman. “I see practically no one far and wide who has what it takes to be chairman – except perhaps Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann.” From his point of view, she would be “the only one who could fill the vacuum at the top of the FDP”.

Labonté, who now also works for the CDU, designed the FDP campaign for the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2012 under the then top candidate Lindner. At that time he coined the central election slogan “Better new elections than new debts.”
