Düsseldorf (AP) – Former Schalke coach David Wagner does not expect the possible relegation of the bottom of the table in the Bundesliga to have a cleaning effect for the Revierclub.
“This descent will not do Schalke any good,” said Wagner (49) in the “Sport1” interview. “It’s so damn hard to assess what can help the club out of this mess.”
Basically, the club’s problems are complex. He also referred to many injuries and “financial shackles” in transfers. “It remains a very large club with a lot of impact. Unfortunately, a lot went in the wrong direction for a long time, ”said Wagner, who took over as coach at the Royal Blues at the beginning of the preseason. After the second day of the current season, the club parted ways with Wagner.
Ex-coach Peter Neururer, however, no longer believes in the Royal Blues’ relegation, this is “completely unrealistic”, said the 65-year-old the “RevierSport”. “Whoever really believes in it is the greatest dreamer on earth.” The club should plan for the coming season in the 2nd division.
The sporting crash is the result of many mistakes in the past, according to Neururer. “The blindness of people who could not properly assess and analyze the situation, which has grown over the years, has led the association into this catastrophic situation.”
