Ivica Olić stormed for over ten years in Germany. The Croatian was a crowd favorite in the Bundesliga. After his playing career, he became an assistant and is apparently facing his first job as head coach.
According to media reports from Russia, Ivica Olić is about to work for CSKA Moscow. The Croatian should be the new head coach of the top club from the Premier League. Viktor Goncharenko is still in office, but the 3-2 home defeat in the top game against Zenit St. Petersburg was probably too much for the Belarusian, who has been coach in Moscow since the end of 2016 and is due to be fired at the beginning of next week.
Moscow’s hopes for Olić
Olić is a familiar face at CSKA. From 2003 to 2007 he played for the team from the Russian capital before going to the Bundesliga. The 41-year-old is currently the assistant coach of the Croatian national team and has been doing this since October 2017.

In Moscow they hope that Olić will kindle new fire in the players and, above all, take key player Nikola Vlašić to a new level, report Russian media. Vlašić is a Croatian international, so Olić knows him very well. The other candidate for the coaching position is Vasili Berezutski, who is currently Goncharenko’s assistant coach and was also a CSKA player.
Olić himself has not yet commented on the rumors. Alongside Sandro Schwarz (Dinamo Moscow) and Domenico Tedesco (Spartak Moscow), he would be the next name on a Russian coaching bench that is also known in this country. The Croatian played for Hertha BSC from 1998 to 2000 and for Hamburger SV, FC Bayern, VfL Wolfsburg and 1860 Munich from 2007 to the end of his career in 2017.
