Former soccer star Dani Alves faces a long prison sentence. Spanish prosecutors are demanding a nine-year prison sentence for raping a young woman in December 2022. In addition, the Brazilian ex-professional from FC Barcelona should pay the victim compensation of 150,000 euros.
This emerges from the indictment obtained by the news agency AFP is present. Alves has been in custody since the beginning of the year.
The 40-year-old, who was part of Brazil’s squad at the World Cup tournament in Qatar last year, is said to have sexually abused the woman in the toilet of a nightclub in Barcelona last December, according to her account.
Initially, Alves repeatedly protested his innocence during the initial investigation. Last spring, however, the former Barca defender admitted to having a sexual relationship with the plaintiff, but continued to deny any allegations of violence.
Regardless of the outcome of the trial, his career is likely to be over for good. The veteran, who won the Champions League three times with Barcelona and the South American Championship twice with Brazil, had his contract with the Mexican first division club Pumas UNAM terminated shortly after the allegations were made.
In total, Alves celebrated 42 title wins in his career.
