From each of the eight qualifying series, the three fastest competitors plus the three with the best times advanced to the semi-finals.
Ewa Swoboda won the fifth qualifying run, and at the same time recorded her best result of the season (10.99). I am very happy that I managed to go below 11 seconds. Where else to do it, if not at the Olympics – she said in an interview with Eurosport.
The qualification was won by three-time world championship medalist Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith from Ivory Coast (10.87).
A total of eight sprinters recorded times under 11 seconds.
