With a 0:2 mortgage from the first leg in Tampere (Fi), EVZ goes into today’s crucial semi-final game. A starting position in which a final qualification is still possible. Because if anyone knows how to make up for a deficit on the way to a title, it’s the people of Zug. As a reminder: In the last playoff final they were 0:3 behind in the series against ZSC.
Currently, however, the champion in the league stumbles again and again, is only sovereign in the CHL competition. The EVZ shows two faces.
“It’s high time that it’s finally just a face,” says Captain Jan Kovar (32), “this is our biggest and most important game of the year”. What does the Czech want to see from his team? “That we are ready for this tough duel, that we don’t give up and constantly play at a high level.”
In the first leg, Zug made life difficult for themselves with penalties. Kovar therefore warns that the following qualities will be key: “Will, discipline and patience.” Because against these Finns you are aware that you don’t get a top scoring chance every time you play.
