“Evicted by the Roma, they reduced my house to a latrine. I was sick »- Corriere.it

from Fabrizio Caccia

Ennio Di Lalla, 86 years old: “Now I just want to go back to my home in the Don Bosco neighborhood”

ROMA – “When Friday, after 23 days, I finally returned to my house, I had an illness. I was frightened, I no longer recognized her ».

Tell us, Signor Ennio, if you can, what you saw.

“There were dozens, I mean, hundreds of unlit cigarettes on the table. Their dog’s pee, a dogo, scattered all over the place. The wax of the candles was melted on the floor and on the furniture, because in the meantime the lawyer Olivieri had made them turn off the electricity and the Roma were making themselves light with snot shoes. In 23 days they even had time to move: inside there is a television that is not mine, they also changed the curtains in the living room. I’ll have to clean it up from top to bottom. ‘ Ennio Di Lalla, 86 years old, from Molise, a retired ACEA executive, is at his brother’s house. He is waiting for it to arrive tomorrow or at the latest on Tuesday, when the judge will sign the order for the release from seizure of the apartment in via Pasquale Del Giudice in the Don Bosco district and he will be able to get his life back.

Can’t wait, right?

“Exactly so. I’ve lived there since ’53 and you know what was the first thing I did in the morning after I woke up? I looked at the photos on the wall of mum and dad, the travel photos, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Iguazu Falls, what a beautiful Patagonia, before Covid I had planned to go back. Well, now, after this bad story of the Roma, if my health helps me, I have decided that I will return ». It is a bad story, but if there is one beautiful thing that he gave him, it is the friendship with the lawyer Alessandro Olivieri, who now protects Mr. Di Lalla as if he were his son. The retiree suffers from heart and after the enormous stress of recent days, the lawyer makes him speak only by phone, mediating between him and the various interlocutors. Among other things, in these days, the two have discovered a great passion in common: that for Pier Paolo Pasolini. Olivieri was the lawyer of Pino Pelosi, the only one convicted of the writer’s murder. Together with “Pino the Frog”, 10 years ago, he also wrote a book, I know how they killed Pasolini, to tell another truth about the Idroscalo crime.
“I have all of Pasolini’s films – says Mr. Di Lalla – Mamma Roma, Beggar, Ricotta. God, I had them! Because now I don’t know if I will find them again. The Roma have emptied everything: the showcases where I kept the watches and the 60 gold lighters. The paintings by Domenico Purificato have also been removed from the walls, the painter was a friend of the family. To make room, the Roma have piled everything up in my studio. Let’s hope the stuff is still there: I had hundreds of films on VHS, not just Pasolini, too Cleopatra by Cecil DeMille, Red shadows by John Ford. There were the plaster madonnas that I bought with my mother in Lourdes, in Fatima, in Medjugorje. I am not married and have no children, so I spent my life traveling, first with my parents and then alone. Oh I forgot: the shoes, the clothes, the plants on the balcony disappeared. There would also be a bow with the arrows of the Indians of the Amazon: once I got there ».

Your nightmare began on October 13, right?

«On the night of the 13th, the Roma occupied, I was not there, I was staying with my brother after having had an ECG and other tests in the hospital. I don’t know who could have passed on the information, there are two other apartments occupied in the building. The next day the administrator called me: he told me that the tenants had heard noises at night. Nobody, however, called the carabinieri. I went there that morning to make a complaint after I realized that the key did not fit and the lock had been changed. When the carabinieri rang the bell, a lady with a foreign accent, a certain Nadia, appeared with a child in her arms and a dogo. Kafkaesque situation: me on the landing, she inside the house. And also with a new light contract, his name on the intercom and on the letterbox. Crazy isn’t it? An owner evicted from a squatter. Only with us can such a thing happen. Now the investigating judge has confiscated everything and appointed me the custodian. I am the keeper of my house ».

And the four women who had to leave?

“What a scoundrel, but the worst is over, I don’t care anymore. I spent these days walking, the orthopedist told me that I have to walk. One thing I want to do right away is pay the locksmith who put the new lock the other day after the evacuation. There were so many cameras that I didn’t understand anything anymore. And then as soon as the release from seizure arrives I want to celebrate with the lawyer Olivieri. I owe him a pizza: but we’ll eat it at home, you never know ».
