Without Leslie Benzies, the three-dimensional Grand Theft Auto would most likely not have been created in the form that we instantly liked in the first half of the 2000s.
Benzies’ name may not be suddenly mentioned, so we can tell you that the former president of Rockstar North resigned from Rockstar in 2016. By 2017, he had already created his own studio, and even then it seemed that the producer of the 3D parts of Grand Theft Auto might be groping towards virtual, augmented reality. The game called Everywhere is approx. announced five years ago and the Reddit the first pictures of it have surfaced, and of course we already mention here that these may be fake photos, as they come from an unofficial source!
One of the official websites of Benzies studio Build A Rocket Boy segment a characterization appears that may refer to the content and style of Everywhere. We quote this translated into Hungarian: “In the near future, technology has brought humanity to the precipice of a world-shaking change. Some people want to use this technology only for their own benefit, while others want to use it for the benefit of all humanity. Will we look to the stars? Or are we just staring at our feet? Will we be inspired? Or do we live in fear? In the hearts of men and women there is a war between good and evil. Everything changes. And there is no going back. This is a game. It’s a community. It’s a new world. The storm is on the horizon. And this is just the beginning of EVERYWHERE.”
There is also a community section, which is also important: “You, the player, are an integral part of the creation, growth and future of EVERYWHERE. Our journey together begins when you register for EVERYWHERE. Over time, through both website and in-game challenges, your player will evolve and your place in EVERYWHERE will become clear.”
The job offers to read that they are looking for animators for Everywhere who would create immersive, premium scenes. The combat designer would implement the mechanics and weapons under Unreal Engine 4 (…5?). A track designer would be responsible for the arenas and even the racing tracks. In terms of characters, it is a fairly realistic direction, while the images are more cartoon-like.
We got a bit of a Fortnite and metaverse feeling.
