Everything you need to know about the massive Mac launches in 2023

If you’re a Mac fan, 2022 may have disappointed you, as Apple’s slate of Macs was surprisingly light last year, with far fewer Macs than expected, indicating there was a lot of anticipation on the part of Mac users. Mac users will get more new Macs in 2023 at the spring event soon.

But what exactly can we expect to see?

In this guide, we’ve rounded up every Mac we expect to launch in 2023. From powerful desktops to laptops that are thin and light, according to Digitartlends.

Apple Silicon Mac Pro

While nearly every Mac has at least one model with Apple silicon on it, there’s one device that hasn’t made the transition yet: the Mac Pro. Perhaps Apple needed more time to perfect a chip that would meet the demands of power users. It looks like the company is almost ready to unveil its edge computing backbone.

There have been some rumors surrounding the Mac Pro regarding the apparent abandonment of the ultra-powerful chip that Apple was developing for the Mac Pro — the M2 Extreme — opting for the smaller Apple M2 Urtla instead.

Then came the news that the next Mac Pro would not have a new design or user upgradeable memory.

All of this news is disappointing, so we’ll have to see if the first Apple Silicon Mac Pro will appeal to the discerning users it’s targeting.

The device is expected to be at a spring event in the coming months, so we won’t have much time to find out.

MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch

Over the years, Apple has released new MacBook Pro models in the fall.

It didn’t happen in 2022 (for the first time since 2000), which means Apple’s professional laptops are lagging behind.

On the plus side, the new MacBook Pro is coming in 2023 — but we won’t see any massive changes.

The devices are expected to receive new chipsets, namely the M2 Pro and M2 Max, which will be modest upgrades to the existing M1 Pro and M1 Max.

Other than that, we don’t think there will be many other changes, as the chassis and screen will likely remain the same.

These MacBook Pro models are currently being announced at Apple’s spring event.

Given historical trends, this will likely fall in March or April.

The 15-inch MacBook Air

Even though the MacBook Air is 15 years old, Apple has never deviated from the 11- and 13-inch sizes.

However, if the rumors are true, that could all change later this year.

Numerous sources have claimed that Apple is not only working on a larger 15-inch MacBook Air, but that it could launch in 2023.

That should give MacBook Air fans a second size to choose from for the first time since the 11-inch model dropped in 2016.

Rumor has it that the 15-inch MacBook Air will have a 15.5-inch screen.

If not, it is likely to be an expanded version of the 13-inch MacBook Air.

It looks like OLED screens are in the works, but they won’t be ready until 2024 at the earliest.

The next generation of Mac mini

In addition to the Mac Pro, there is another Mac with an Intel chip: the Mac mini.

Even though this computer offers Apple’s silicon models, they still use the latest M1 chipset. All of this means that the Mac mini lineup deserves an update.

This update is expected to come at Apple’s spring event, where the Mac mini will receive an M2 chipset and possibly an M2 Pro option.

This means that we finally see the discontinuation of the Intel Mac mini, a computer with an older processor.

There are conflicting rumors about what other changes we should expect in the next Mac mini.

Journalist Mark Gorman and candidate John Prosser both claimed that the device would have an updated design and more ports.

While analyst Ming Shi Kua confirmed that the Mac mini will likely use the same design as the current model.

Since the iMac Pro was discontinued around 2021, rumors have swirled that Apple is working on a successor.

It looks like the company might be almost ready to reveal the PC to the world, with the release date falling somewhere in late 2023.

At the moment it is unclear if the device will be branded as an iMac Pro or just a larger iMac.

If it’s the former, expect “professional” design options (think silver and space gray), while the latter will likely adopt the bright colors of the current 24-inch iMac.

Anyway, we expect the big iMac to adopt M3-generation chipsets, most likely the M3 Pro and M3 Max.

It could also come with a next-generation display, possibly like Apple’s Pro Display XDR.

24-inch iMac

The iMac Pro may return, and the 24-inch iMac is also due for an update.

The current model was released in the spring of 2021, and it’s two years time for a new release.

Just like the iMac Pro, we can expect the next iMac to be powered by the M3 generation chipset, although in this case we’re expecting the M3 and nothing more advanced like the M3 Pro.

It will likely continue with the same colorful designs as the current model.

Not much is known about the upcoming iMac at this point, which indicates that the update will likely be minor, possibly limited to a chip-only update.

Rumors point to an announcement date in late 2023, so we’ll likely have a while to wait just yet.

What about the 13-inch MacBook Pro?

The 13-inch MacBook Pro has a sore thumb in Apple’s Mac lineup and is a strong contender for being Apple’s worst MacBook.

It has similar performance and fewer ports compared to the M2 MacBook Air, but it costs more.

Could we see a new version in 2023?

Since the 13-inch MacBook Pro was last updated at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2022, there are doubts that Apple will introduce a new version just a year after the introduction of the latest model.

Will Apple remove it from the Mac menu?

That’s not clear right now, though we’d like Apple to do this and streamline its Mac offering, but it would require the company to drop the price of the 14-inch MacBook Pro to be able to sell at least one MacBook. Loyal to the reasonable price.

This seems unlikely, so the 13-inch model will likely continue into 2023.
