Everything points to Valve working on a laptop console

Can the Nintendo Switch finally get a rival?

In the latest update of the gaming platform Steam, there was some code that pointed to Valve working with a portable device called “SteamPal”. This is not the first time the device has been mentioned in Steam’s code, but previously it went by the name Neptune and people have thought it was a new control.

Now, however, states Arstechnica that they have received confirmation from several sources that Valve is actually building a Nintendo Switch-like portable PC that will be able to run a large number of PC games. Several sources are said to have confirmed that the device has been under development for quite some time, runs Linux and has gamepad controls and a touchscreen.

The portable device will be released at the end of the year if all goes well, which is in line with the answer given by CEO Gabe Newell recently to the question of whether Valve plans to release games on consoles: “You will get a better understanding of it at the end of the year … and it will not be the answer you expect. You will say, ‘Aha! Now I understand what he was talking about.’ “
