In Gandhinagar, Gujarat, a case has come to light of a person opening a fake court in his office and passing orders like a judge. After this was revealed, the police arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
Giving information about this on Monday, Gujarat Police said that a person has set up a fake tribunal in his office in Gandhinagar. Besides, he presented himself as its judge and passed orders creating an atmosphere like a real court.
Police said that accused Morris Samuel Christian had passed the order in favor of his client in a case related to government land in 2019. Police say that this indicates that this fake court was running for at least the last five years.
According to a government statement, Ahmedabad Police has arrested Morris Samuel Christian for allegedly defrauding people by posing as an Arbitral Tribunal judge and passing favorable orders. Christian did this by claiming that a competent court had appointed him as an arbitrator to settle legal disputes.
Action taken on the complaint of Civil Court Registrar
After a complaint was lodged at Karanj police station by the Registrar of Civil Court of Ahmedabad city, action was taken against this vicious swindler and his fake court was exposed.
According to the statement, Morris Samuel Christian has been booked under sections 170 and 419 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Initial police investigation revealed that Christian used to implicate people whose cases related to land disputes were pending in the city civil court. He used to charge a fixed amount from his clients as fee for solving their cases.
Used to cheat in the name of resolving land disputes
According to the police, Christian first established himself as an official mediator appointed by the court and then called his clients to his office in Gandhinagar. He had made this office exactly like a court, where he used to pass orders as the presiding officer of the tribunal.
The statement said that his accomplices used to pose as court employees or lawyers and create an atmosphere that the proceedings were real. In 2019, Christian used the same methodology to obtain an order in his client’s favor.
what is the matter
The case pertained to a government land under the District Collector, while his client had claimed it and wanted to add his name to the revenue records relating to the plot located in Paldi area.
Without any authorization or order issued by any court under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, Christian had told his client that he had been appointed as the “official arbitrator” by the government.
The statement said that the swindler then initiated fake proceedings in his ‘court’ and passed an order in favor of his client. In that order the Collector was directed to add the name of his client in the revenue records of that land. To enforce that order, Christian filed an appeal in the city civil court through another lawyer and also attached the fraudulent order passed by him. However, court registrar Hardik Desai recently found out that neither Christian is the arbitrator nor the tribunal order is genuine.
Following his complaint, Karanj police registered an FIR and arrested the thug, the statement said. A complaint of fraud is already registered against him in Maninagar police station of Ahmedabad city in 2015.
