Yeoh takes on Cate Blanchett in this category (Warehouse), Ana de Armas (Blonde), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans) en Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie).
Also in the Best Supporting Actress category Everything Everywhere All at Once a major contender. Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu are both nominated for their acting in the film.
Colin Farrell was nominated for his lead role The Banshees of Inisherin. He is up against Austin Butler, who has a chance with his role as Elvis Presley in Elvis. Also Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Paul Mescal (After sun) a Bill Nighy (Living) are nominated.

First Marvel actor to win Oscar
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also has a good chance of winning a prize with five nominations. Actress Angela Bassett was nominated thanks to her supporting role in that film. She is the first actor to win an Oscar for a role in a Marvel film.
Belgian movie Close is in the running for the Oscar for best international film. In that category, the film by director Lukas Dhont competes against, among others, the German war drama All Quiet on the Western Front. The Dutch movie Grunt ultimately failed to make it to the last five in the Best Animated Film category.
Rihanna has won her first Oscar nomination for her song Lift Me Upfrom Wakanda Forever. The singer returned to the music world with that song last year after a long absence.
Lady Gaga is also nominated in the Original Song category. The singer owes that to her song Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick. She was nominated twice before in this category.
