Omega 3 fatty acids are an indispensable resource for the well-being of our body. They are very important above all for the correct functioning of cells and, in particular, of the nervous system. But what plant food are we talking about? It is about the humble nights. That’s right: walnuts are very rich in omega 3. The consumption of walnuts, therefore, can help us meet our daily omega3 requirement.
This is another reason why we should add walnuts to our diet. Unlike fish, in fact, walnuts are completely cholesterol-free. They would therefore be indicated for those who must keep blood cholesterol levels under control.
Other plant foods
Walnuts aren’t the only ones that help us reach our daily omega-3 requirements. Other plant foods also contain these essential fatty acids.
In particular, flax seeds are rich in omega3. We can easily introduce them into the diet as salad dressings or soups. Remember, however, to chop them up before consuming them, otherwise they risk crossing our digestive system whole.
As for legumes, soy is another source of omega3. Soy derivatives, such as soy milk and versatile tofu, also contain omega3.
Some algae are also rich in omega3. For example, the seaweed of the genus Porphyria, which is used to produce the sheets of nori seaweed, the famous seaweed used in sushi.
