Some of us may have been thinking: What will my funeral be like? What will the attendees remember from my life? Will the guests cry? Or maybe laugh a little at some funny stories?
But Les Gibbins from East Riding in England had probably not in his wildest dreams imagined what it would be like when he was finally to be sunk into the ground.
Gibbins died of cancer in January, aged 69. He loved fishing, and had repeatedly told his friends John and Mark Punton – who run a funeral home – that they should go fishing together.
They never made the fishing trip while Gibbins was alive. But John and Mark found a sensational way to honor their old friend.
They decorated the burial site with two fishing rods, chairs and a small pond with fish, writes South West News Service.
Everything was done without the widow, Denise Gibbins (67) being notified. She says she was almost beaten to the ground when she reached the grave.
The wife kept the promise – David survived
– That was amazing. They did all this without my knowledge.
She says that the decoration made several of the mourners laugh – and bring back fond memories of her husband.
– The family and friends of Les, everyone who came to the grave, thought it was great.
– It was absolutely incredible. Everyone smiled and laughed, thinking that if Les had seen this, he would have said “Wow, is all this for me?”, Writes South West News Service.
