Everyday question: What is the dormouse? – Counselor

June 27th is Dormouse Day. The weather that day is said to show what it will be like over the next seven weeks. Where does this assumption come from?

Silvia Teich (50) from Nabu: “An old farmers’ rule is: ‘The weather on Dormouse Day may remain for seven weeks.’ The day – June 27th – does not celebrate the rodent dormouse. These sleeping mice doze in the tree hollows or other hiding places and do not become active until dusk. Her name comes from her seven months hibernation. ”

The background of the Dormouse Day, however, is religious. Seven young Christians sought shelter in a cave, were walled in, and slept for 195 years. According to the German Weather Service, the farmers’ rule is often correct. Over 30 degrees are expected for this year’s dormouse day.
