If many Julyists have taken the road to vacation, the Augustians are taking their troubles patiently. This week, they still have the possibility of granting themselves a four-day weekend: yes, it is July 14 this Thursday, a national holiday. Before attending the traditional fireworks, can you go shopping or do some last-minute shopping? We take stock.
Most supermarkets remain open
Unlike May 1, which this year fell on a Sunday, July 14 will be very little unemployed for employees of large and medium-sized stores. The vast majority of stores Leclerc, Super U et Hyper U, Casino, Cora et Carrefour thus remain open.
On the side ofAuchan also, most shops are open: supermarkets from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and hypermarkets from 8.30 a.m. or 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. or even 8 p.m.
As for Lidl, it is rather the opposite: the vast majority of stores are closed except in the departments favored by tourists such as Ardèche, Haute-Savoie or even Vaucluse. The complete list of points of sale open this Thursday can be consulted below.

On the other hand, whatever their surface and the sign, the curtains of the supermarkets of three departments all remain down: those of Moselle, Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin.

July 14: a public holiday… not necessarily a day off
The National Day may well be one of the eleven public holidays recognized by law via l’article L3133-1 of the Labor Code, it is not necessarily a day off, unlike May Day, which celebrates Labor Day. It is the company or establishment agreement or, failing that, a convention or a branch agreement that defines the public holidays. In the absence of an agreement, the decision rests with the employer.
However, Alsace and Moselle benefit from a special regime because all public holidays necessarily give rise to a work stoppage.
The Labor Code specifies, l’article L3133-3that when a public holiday is not worked, this should not “entail any loss of salary for employees totaling at least three months of seniority in the company or establishment”.

DIY: don’t panic, it’s also open
Do you plan to take advantage of this day to tinker? Everything does not always go as planned and we are never safe from a measurement error or a lost screw. Do not panic: DIY signs Castorama et Brico Depot are exceptionally open this Thursday, July 14.
Do you have more of a green thumb? Some stores gardenland also remain open.
As for decorating enthusiasts, they can go to Ikea. The stores in Avignon, Dijon, Clermont-Ferrand, Lyon Grand Parilly and Saint-Étienne are open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and even 8 p.m. for some. On the other hand, those of Metz, Mulhouse and Strasbourg keep their doors closed.

Bakers, greengrocers, butchers, fishmongers, newsagents… The opening of this type of business is decided on a case-by-case basis, it is better to think about looking on the internet or picking up the phone.
