‘Every Vaccine Counts’ – Gobernación de Boyacá Urges Citizens to Stay Current on Vaccinations as Vaccination Day of the Americas Approaches

It will take place throughout the month of April with a week of intensification from 21 to 29, with the opening of all vaccination points. April 22 and 29 from 8 am to 4 pm will be central days.

Tunja, March 31, 2023. (UACP). The Government of Boyacá, through the Ministry of Health, invites the entire Boyacá community to celebrate the 21st Vaccination Week of the Americas “Get up to date #CadaVacunaCuenta”, which will take place throughout the month of April.

Nancy Judith Munévar Sepúlveda, director of Health Promotion and Prevention, assured that this conference is held in order to start, continue and complete vaccination schemes for the population targeted by the expanded immunization program: boys and girls under 6 years of age and their families, women of childbearing age from 10 to 49 years and pregnant women.

He added that for this week, vaccination will be intensified throughout the department during the month of April. All the countries of the Americas and the world come together articulating actions for the comprehensive health of early childhood and childhood and adolescence.

22 vaccines from the national scheme will be available, which can combat 28 different diseases.

According to Sandra Antolínez Aunta, referent of the Expanded Immunization Program, PAI, in view of the objective of meeting the goals and reaching useful vaccination coverage of 95% and more, and according to the results achieved in the vaccination coverage of the regular EPI scheme as of February 2023, taking into account that the minimum value expected to obtain useful coverage is 15.83%, in biological tracers; the departmental level reached a coverage of 15.56%, low risk in third doses of pentavalent in children under one year of age, 16.28% useful coverage in triple viral doses in children one year of age, 14.81% in the MMR booster in 18-month-old children, meaning coverage at medium risk and 16.98% with DPT in 5-year-old children more than useful coverage, therefore, the EPI assumed the intensification of vaccination strategies and tactics adapted to each of the 123 municipalities of the Department.

“In order to identify the population susceptible to the program pending the initiation, completion, or termination of the administration of any of the 21 biologicals available and in search of recovering coverage for the protection of the population subject to the PAI, even more so when there is a pending population of vaccinating from previous years, generates a potential risk in the presence of diseases preventable with vaccination” pointed out the referent.

Finally, he invited the population to attend all the health centers and vaccination points established in the 123 municipalities of the department of Boyacá, as well as not to forget to carry the vaccination card, so that they can receive the available vaccines and their reinforcements, and thus avoiding serious illnesses or even death.
