Every third Czech wants to change their field of work

During their professional life, three quarters of people changed their field of work, with one in two during their professional career and a quarter immediately after graduation. That’s according to a survey by Grafton Recruitment.

Affected mainly positions in gastronomy

“The pandemic has brought uncertainty to the labor market, people prefer stability and are afraid of experimentation and change. That is why last year only 14 percent of economically active people changed their field, which is a significant decrease compared to the previous year, “added Martin Malo, Director of Grafton Recruitment and GI Group.

The fields from which people have left most often in recent months have been hit hardest by the epidemiological measures taken. These are mainly positions in gastronomy and hospitality, administration and production.

Workers, on the other hand, were attracted mainly by the field of education, sales and logistics.

The survey also showed that although IT is generally one of the most attractive industries, people don’t think much about IT positions when planning change. They are aware of the need for demanding retraining.

University students, especially IT experts and engineers, have the least desire for change, while women and employees under the age of 35 have the greatest appetite.

Every fourth person is already looking for a job

In the next two years, more than a third of people consider changing their field. This is most often considered by business service workers, least often by IT people.

“Employees working in business services are among the most satisfied, yet they are more open to change than employees from other fields. One of the reasons is the fact that the nature of their work is changing under the influence of technology and automation. People are afraid that their position could disappear or they would have to retrain, “added Malo.

At the same time, he reminded that these concerns are often unnecessary, because corporate service centers prepare their employees for possible changes with the help of their training programs and continue to actively recruit new employees.

Currently, about a quarter of people are looking for a new job, another third of active workers are open to a good offer.

In two thirds of cases, the reason for the change in the field is the personal need for change, another third of the respondents cite changes in the labor market as the reason.
