The so-called WINDOW DAY will take place tomorrow throughout the Czech Republic. This event aims to motivate people to order food directly to the dispensers of individual restaurants and pubs. It is intended to help a sector in which more than half of businesses are in danger of failing. An alternative to direct consumption is to use the services of distribution companies, but it is a financially expensive journey that absorbs a large part of the restaurant’s margin and thus significantly reduces their chances of rescue.
“Restaurants and pubs are an integral part of Czech culture. They survived only the harsh spring period, when we witnessed tremendous creativity and innovation in devising ways to protect customers while ensuring at least basic operations. In addition to home sewing of drapes, the dispensing windows have become a symbol of spring. Nevertheless, sales reached only a fraction of the standard level and no special government support came. The second round of restaurant closures means that more than half of them are in direct danger of bankruptcy. “ said Tomáš Prouza, President of the Confederation of Trade and Tourism of the Czech Republic and Vice President of the Czech Chamber of Commerce.

“WINDOW DAY” is one of the initiatives to try to save domestic restaurants. Otherwise, there will be irreparable losses not only for the operators of restaurants and pubs and their employees, but also for distribution or food companies. It builds on the existing #OrderPRIMO call.
“With the campaign, we want to encourage people to take a walk, ventilate in the fresh air, go to their favorite restaurant and pick up food directly. They will help themselves with their movement and for their lunches with restaurants. There really is no time for a long decision. Already today, a third of restaurants are closed and these numbers are growing dramatically. Today, thousands of people have lost their jobs in gastronomy and more are being added every day, “ stressed Vaclav Starek, President of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Czech Republic.
According to Luboš Kastner, the guarantor of the Moje restaurace project of the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Self-Employed Persons of the Czech Republic, “I would like to ask everyone who will have the time and desire to go or even go to the service window on Saturday and support their favorite catering facility. Restaurants picking up food directly saves at least 30 percent of sales. We want to continue the campaign until this dramatic period is over. “ said Kastner.
