It’s impossible to watch this.
Soviet cinema presented the audience with many wonderful pictures. However, not all works of this period can be called flawless. Moreover, many viewers are still frankly ashamed of some of them.
A vivid example of this is the “Dungeon of the Witches”. The adaptation of Kira Bulychev’s science fiction came out in 1990, when Russian cinema was going through hard times. The plot tells about the potential dangers of progress for humanity. Despite the intriguing idea, today the film looks like a real failure.
The film has a brilliant cast: Nikolai Karachentsov, Igor Yasulovich, Dmitry Pevtsov and Sergey Zhigunov. But even they failed to pull the picture with their game. Instead of promising science fiction, viewers got a third-rate action movie with extremely weak and inappropriate special effects. The film “Dungeon of the Witches” became a typical brainchild of the perestroika era, when directors shot a lot of experimental films, not really thinking about its quality.
