Every fourth Australian farmer is without labor

Around 22% of Australian farmers were unable to fill vacancies on their farm within three months. This is according to the results of the Dairy Australia survey. 40% of the companies surveyed have recently lost at least one employee. “The shortage of workers has already resulted in some farms milking fewer cows,” explains Verity Ingham, CEO of Dairy Australia.

According to the National Dairy Industry Association, the labor shortage problem was caused mainly by the Crown, but also by a general national shortage of skilled labor. A nationwide campaign across radio, television, print and social media is now set to highlight the positives of working on farms and encourage Australians to work in the sector.
