“Every consumer can choose”: Yango Deli decided to sell chametz during Passover

Retail app Yango Deli has decided to sell chametz products, a move that may spark controversy. Biango Deli even increased what they did – in order to intensify the move and attract a secular audience to the app during the Passover days, they will offer a very wide variety of sales on chametz products. For example: 2 delicatessen pizza snacks for NIS 70, six Weinstein beers for NIS 59.90 instead of NIS 69.90 and 3 flakes of Asem for NIS 21.

Every year the issue of selling sour cream during Passover makes headlines and generates a wide public debate. It should be noted that last year the company also decided to sell sour cream, which provoked criticism from consumers.

Perhaps in accordance with the hametz law in Israel, which states that during Passover “a business owner shall not publicly present a hametz product for sale or consumption” – the appearance of hametz products in the application is also possible only after the user indicates that he does not keep kosher. The special filter can already be seen when you enter the application.

For those who marked that they do keep the holiday mitzvah, the chametz products will not appear at all. Biango explains that “the filter will pop up and appear several times to verify this, until a certain stage when it detects the consumer’s behavior”.

Yango Deli, it must be said, works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and therefore is not defined as kosher service. The company’s branches, which are not open to the public but serve as a product collection station for pickers and couriers, do not hold a kosher certificate either. “Yango Deli operates throughout the country, but mainly in the center and in areas where most of the public is secular (Tel Aviv and Haifa, for example),” the company explains. And at the same time, selling chametz is still considered an unusual step in the retail market.

Yakir Gefen, product marketing manager at Yango Deli: “We work hard to adapt ourselves to our entire audience. Each consumer can choose to enjoy our service in a variety that suits them, and we will not deny anyone a product they are interested in, and on the other hand, we will not put any customer in a situation Not pleasant. There is an entire public that does not want to see chametz, and is looking for this kind of solution, and we can, using simple technology, make it possible without harming anyone’s experience.”
