The European Union and the provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland support innovations in virus detection and water purification.
It is now a project that is working on a virus detection rapid test that can be used in major virus outbreaks.
The VIRAPOC project contributes to combating the consequences of major virus outbreaks and limiting the social and economic effects.
The consortium consists of NYtor (Nijmegen) D’Andrea and Evers Design (Enter), Holland Innovative (Enschede) Elect High-Tech Electronics (Weerselo) Micronit Microtechnologies (Enschede).
Detectieplatform
The partners in the VIRAPOC project are developing a ‘lab-on-a-chip detection platform’.
A rapid test for virus detection is being realized using various key technologies (nanotechnology, life sciences, semiconductor and photonics).
To prevent large outbreaks from occurring when people meet again, it must be possible to test quickly to prevent further spread of the virus.
It must also be possible to trace people who carry the virus, but show little or no symptoms of disease. A quick test can also prevent unnecessary and lengthy isolation or home quarantine. This reduces the impact of local virus outbreaks for both the economy and the individual.
Grant amount
The consortium has received a subsidy of EUR 1,116,194 from the EU and the provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel. The total costs are EUR 2,790,486.
Direct reuse of wastewater
Another Overijssels project that is being honored concerns an innovation in the field of water purification, in which new techniques are used to purify wastewater from sewage treatment plants to drinking water quality. Thanks to the NANOX project, no or less drinking water needs to be used.
The NANOX project may eventually be a solution to the drinking water issue in Overijssel.
The consortium consists of NX Filtration (Enschede), Jotem Water Treatment (Vriezenveen), Van Remmen UV (Wijhe), Demcon (Optiqua) (Enschede) and Saxion (Enschede).
They receive a subsidy of 1,156,947 euros from the EU and the Provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland. The total costs amount to 2,706,560 euros.
Even more projects awarded funding
In addition to the Overijssel projects, two Gelderland projects have also been awarded funding in the field of innovative potato cultivation and electric ground drilling machines.
