Ever Got Covid-19 Then Vaccinated, Someone Becomes Super Immune

JawaPos.com–A recent study revealed the fact that those who had recovered from Covid-19 a few months before receiving the vaccine, were believed to be super immune or super immune. Because, they have antibodies that are able to fight the surge in variant mutations and are ready to face other variants.

A person infected with Covid-19 and then vaccinated shows more resistance to immune attack than the known natural variants. Those people’s antibodies even blocked other types of coronavirus.

It’s very likely that they will be effective against any future variants regarding SARS-CoV-2, ”said Hatziioannou.

As the world is wary of a new coronavirus variant, the basis of such superimmunity has become one of the great mysteries of the pandemic. The researchers hope that by mapping the difference between the immune protection that comes from infection versus vaccination, they can map that higher protection.

“This fact has implications for booster and how our immune response is prepared for the next variant that emerges,” said Mehul Suthar, a virologist at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Nature, Thursday (25/11).

Shortly after countries began rolling out vaccines, researchers began to notice the unique nature of the vaccine response in people who previously contracted and recovered from Covid-19.

“We saw that the antibodies were more than what you get from just two doses of the vaccine,” said Rishi Goel, an immunologist at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, who is part of the team studying superimmunity, also known as hybrid immunity.

Studies have found that superimmune people have serums that contain antibodies and are able to neutralize strains such as the beta variant identified in South Africa and other coronaviruses. When people recovering from Covid-19 are re-exposed with a spike SARS-CoV-2, those cells proliferate and produce more and more powerful antibodies.

That way, the first dose of vaccine in someone who has previously been infected does the same job as the second dose in someone who has never been infected with Covid-19.

The researchers also found that people with hybrid immunity produced consistently higher levels of antibodies, compared to people who were never infected, for up to seven months.

“Antibody levels are also more stable in people with hybrid immunity,” says a team led by immunologist Duane Wesemann at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.

“It’s not surprising that infected and vaccinated people respond well,” said B-cell immunologist at the University of Washington in St. Louis, USA, Ali Ellebedy.
