Eventually Kakao Games got involved in a refund lawsuit. Users of “Uma Musume: Pretty Derby (hereafter referred to as Uma Musume)” are filing a class refund suit against Kakao Games.
The “Uma Musume Pretty Derby Recall Litigation Delegation (hereinafter referred to as the Representative Delegation)” held a press conference outside the main gate of the Seoul Central District Court on the 23rd and announced that it would proceed with a class reimbursement lawsuit against Kakao Games . On the same day, they filed a complaint with the Seoul Central District Court for a refund.
According to the representative team, around 7,000 users have expressed their intention to proceed with the lawsuit. The amount they ask for reimbursement amounts to about 8-9 billion won. However, a total of 201 people filed a lawsuit that day and the claim amount per person is 200,000 won and the size of the lawsuit is approximately 40 million won. The representative team plans to expand the number and reach of litigation participants in the future.
The litigation delegation is made up of attorneys Shin Jae-yeon, Kim Hyun-kwon and Tae-young LKB and attorney Lee Cheol-woo, a spokesperson for the user.
“Uma Musume” users have been complaining about Kakao Games’ malfunctions since last August. The issue of discrimination between Korean and Japanese servers, poor communication, as well as problems related to the “Kitasan Black SSR” event held in July when the company suddenly started a server maintenance and the event ended prematurely. And on the 29th of last month a ‘carriage demonstration’ was held in front of the Kakao Games headquarters, starting a real public debate.
Kakao Games has repeatedly issued excuses to appease users. On the 17th a meeting was held with users lasting about 8 hours to answer the questions prepared by the users. However, as a result, the conflict was not resolved smoothly and eventually spread to a refund lawsuit.
In the midst of this, on the 21st, Kakao Games replaced Lee Si-woo, who was in charge of “Uma Musume”, with Kim Sang-goo, head of the company on the 21st. He also announced that he would come up with a remedy for the users who were harmed during the early closure of the “Kitasan Black” event.
