LAST: Oddvar Gjerde in Industrivernet informs TA that there has been an outcome at one of the nitric acid factories in the industrial area. There should be no danger to the surroundings on the outside, but a local alarm has been sounded inside the park.
By outcome is meant an unplanned stop, which in turn leads to the smoke that can now be seen over large parts of Porsgrunn.
The industrial park has routinely established rescue staff.
Gjerde says that they are now concentrating on gaining control of the situation, but that the industrial park will send out information on an ongoing basis.
On Wednesday night, the phone has barely stood still in the editorial office of TA. A handful of people have noticed a strong and yellow smoke coming from Herøya industrial park.
– It’s really disgusting to watch, says a caller, who sees the smoke from Klyve.

– Handled internally
The police’s operations manager, Espen Reite, informs TA that they have been notified by Herøya industrial park that there is a smoke from a torch on the spot, and that this is something that is handled internally.
The police have also been informed that the industrial protection is on site and working on the case.
– No danger to the surroundings
The cause of the heavy smoke is so far not known to either TA or the police, but the police have been informed by the industrial park that this will not pose any danger to the surroundings.
The case is being updated.
