1989 – The Serbian parliament revokes the extensive autonomy and self-government rights of the provinces of Kosovo and Vojvodina.
1979 – At the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant near Harrisburg (Pennsylvania), a radioactive cloud is released in the then most serious nuclear accident in the USA. 200,000 people are brought to safety.
1942 – The city center of Lübeck is almost completely destroyed during the first carpet bombing campaign by the British Royal Air Force on German residential areas and major cities in World War II.
1922 – Germany hands over the “Bismarck”, the largest luxury liner built in Germany at the time, to Great Britain. The steamer is part of the reparations payments to which the German Reich had committed itself in the Versailles Treaty.
1882 – The Hamburg pharmacist Paul Carl Beiersdorf receives a patent for the first adhesive plaster. For the first time, he applies a layer of adhesive to plaster gauze and thus founds the Beiersdorf company.
