2002 – The Algerian Parliament unanimously approves the recognition of Berber as an official language alongside Arabic.
2002 – The Kirch Group files for insolvency for its core business. Measured against the level of debt of 6.5 billion euros, this is the largest company bankruptcy in German post-war history up to that point.

1989 – Steffen Fetzner and Jörg Roßkopf win the men’s doubles at the Table Tennis World Championships in Dortmund. It is the first World Championship title for the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) since 1945.
