History: What happened on July 19?
2021 – Despite the high number of infections, the British government announces a “Freedom Day”. Almost all corona measures are lifted in England. Distance rules, mask requirements and access restrictions for events are no longer applicable.

2017 – Uruguay becomes the first country to organize the cultivation and legal sale of marijuana. Registered users can purchase two types of hemp in selected pharmacies in quantities of up to ten grams per week.
2012 – In the Bundestag, the Union, FDP and SPD vote for a legal regulation of religious circumcisions. According to this, a medically professional circumcision of underage boys should be permissible in principle. The district court in Cologne had previously classified the circumcision as bodily harm and thus triggered protests.
2007 – The federal government, railways, Baden-Württemberg and Stuttgart agree on the financing of the multi-billion dollar railway project Stuttgart 21. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new ICE route to Ulm and an underground main station in Stuttgart is to take place in 2010.
1992 – In the Sicilian capital of Palermo, prominent mafia coroner Paolo Borsellino and five of his bodyguards are killed in a mafia bomb attack.
1952 – The Works Constitution Act, which applies to all private companies with five or more employees, is passed by the Bundestag. It regulates the establishment and tasks of works councils/employee representatives. The law comes into force in November 1952.

1937 – In Munich, the National Socialists open the “Degenerate Art” exhibition initiated by Joseph Goebbels. Thus begins the defamation campaign against modern art.
1917 – The Reichstag passes a peace resolution in which the German government is called upon to bring about a peace of understanding and without annexations with the previous wartime enemies. The resolution had no effect.
1870 – The Franco-Prussian War, which lasted until 1871, begins with France declaring war on Prussia.
