2021 – The Federal Ministry of the Interior bans the Salafist association Ansaar International and its subdivisions. Under the guise of humanitarian aid, Ansaar is said to have forwarded fundraising to Islamist terrorist organizations.
2020 – The Federal Constitutional Court objects to the European Central Bank’s billion-dollar bond purchases. The ECB must provide reasons for this, otherwise the Deutsche Bundesbank should not be allowed to participate. The European Court of Justice had approved the purchase program.
2017 – The first Chinese-made twin-engine passenger aircraft takes off on its maiden flight in Shanghai. The Comac C919 has room for 168 passengers.
2012 – Federal President Joachim Gauck becomes the first German to give a speech at the celebrations in the Netherlands on the “Day of Liberation” from Nazi rule.

2002 – In the presidential run-off election in France, incumbent Jacques Chirac wins with 82.21 percent. After his surprising entry into the final round of the presidential election, the right-wing extremist Jean-Marie Le Pen only achieved 17.79 percent.
1992 – A makeshift stand collapses at the Furiani football stadium in Bastia, Corsica, France, killing 17. There are more than 2,350 injured, some seriously.
1947 – The first edition of the sports newspaper “Deutsches Sportecho” is published in the Soviet occupation zone (SBZ). It survived the GDR and was published for the last time in April 1991.
1912 – The first issue of the Russian daily newspaper “Pravda” appears in St. Petersburg.
1842 – A fire breaks out in Hamburg’s old town. The “Great Fire” destroyed large parts of the city center in the next few days. 1,750 houses and 100 warehouses fall victim to the flames, 51 people die and 20,000 lose their homes.
