2021 – Chelsea FC wins the final of the Champions League in Porto (Portugal). The Londoners beat the English football champions Manchester City 1-0.
2020 – President Donald Trump announces the United States will withdraw from the World Health Organization. This is under the control of China, which has not prevented the spread of the corona pandemic. The new US government Biden will take the step back in 2021.
2010 – Lena Meyer-Landrut wins the 55th Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo with her song “Satellite”. 28 years after Nicole’s victory with “Ein bißchen Frieden” in 1982, a singer again wins the Grand Prix for Germany.
2007 – In the midst of a dispute with NATO over the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) and the planned US missile defense system, Russia tests a new RS-24 ICBM for the first time.
2002 – The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” rejects the preprint of Martin Walser’s novel “Death of a Critic” because of “anti-Semitic clichés”. Many want to recognize the literary critic Marcel Reich-Ranicki in the protagonist.

1992 – Switzerland becomes the last industrialized country to join the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington. The Swiss voted in a referendum to join the IMF and the World Bank.
1977 – A fire broke out in one of the many restaurants at the Beverly Hills Club amusement center in the Cincinnati, Ohio suburb of Southgate, with the consequences being compounded by panic. 165 fatalities are recovered. A defective alternator is suspected to be the cause of the disaster.
1942 – Bing Crosby records the Christmas song “White Christmas” in New York. Irving Berlin wrote the song for the music film Holiday Inn. Today it is the best-selling Christmas classic of all time.
1932 – The first motorcycle race starts in Hockenheim/Kurpfalz. The winners are local hero Arthur Geiss on a DKW in the class up to 250 cc and Briton Tom Bullus on an NSU in the 500 cc category.
