History: What happened on July 18?

2021 – The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar wins the Tour de France again. The 22-year-old dominated the race more clearly than last year with a lead of more than five minutes.

2017 – At least 547 choristers of the Regensburger Domspatzen fell victim to physical and sexual violence between 1945 and the early 1990s. This emerges from the final report on the abuse scandal at the world-famous choir. Those affected are to be compensated with up to 20,000 euros each.

1942 – The Messerschmitt Me 262 V3, a jet-powered fighter, takes off with pilot Fritz Wendel in Leipheim for the maiden flight with Junkerswerke’s Jumo 004 jet engines. The Jumo would later become the standard engines for the Me 262.
