Another crazy stage at the Vuelta. After the night time trial, the times taken thanks to the fans’ mobile phones on day 2, Evenepoel wins, defeats the competition and ends up on the ground opening an eyebrow. All regular in one of the most sensational editions we’ve ever seen. Not that Evenepeol ended up on the ground by himself, but he did collide with a lady who was stationed at the roadside as she tried to cross, casting new shadows over a racing organization that is leaking everywhere in this start to the Vuelta .

Vendrame and Caruso on the run
Many escape attempts in the first part of the stage, but Education EasyPost and the other teams are in control. The real action starts at -120 with Latour, Sepulveda and Ghebreigzabhier. A few km later a squad of 11 men formed, made up of Damiano Caruso and Sütterlin (Bahrain Victorious), Ghebreigzabhier (Lidl Trek), Latour (TotalEnergies), Sepulveda (Lotto Dstny), Kämna (Bora Hansgrohe), Vendrame (AG2R Citroën) , Herregodts (Intermarché-Circus Wanty), Barrenetxea (Caja Rural), Le Berre (Arkéa Samsic) and José Manuel Díaz (Burgos). After a few km with Piccolo’s Education EasyPost in the lead, the Jumbo Visma immediately took over the reins of the group with van Baarle.
Bardet attacks from afar
Serry tries to lend a hand to the Jumbos and from the initial 5′ advantage for the breakaway, it goes to 3′ before the day’s climbs. On the Coll d’Ordino the first to attack was José Manuel Díaz, a great response from Damiano Caruso while Vendrame broke away. Halfway up the slope, 5 remain in front with Sepulveda, Barrenetxea, Damiano Caruso, Ghebreigzabhier and Kämna still on the attack. In the group, on the other hand, it is the DSM that takes the responsibility for finalizing the chase with Bardet who wants to aim for the stage. And it was precisely the Frenchman who started at -23.7 km, but Kelderman went to pick him up and made the DSM captain desist.
Kämna teases Caruso, Evenepoel detaches Vingegaard and Roglic
Arinsal begins and, in front, only Kämna and Damiano Caruso are left who have to administer 1’30” on the group. However, the German is in a hurry and detaches the Ragusan at -6.4. Damiano Caruso returns, tries to collaborate, but Kämna makes head of him and leaves. The German is in any case taken up by the group and continuous clicks and scatterelli are seen. Even Kuss and Soler try, while Geraint Thomas comes off. However, at -300 meters they are all together and it is Evenepoel who has the winning starting point who goes strong and detaches both Vingegaard and Roglic, with the Slovenian who was badly positioned. Evenepoel wins, even with a 1” margin over all the others and conquers his first red jersey of this Vuelta.
