Six weeks after his crash in the Tour of Lombardy, Evenepoel went to the hospital in Herentals again yesterday for a scan. “His pelvic fracture is evolving in the right direction”, it sounds on the site of the team. Evenepoel can therefore leave his crutches aside from now on.
And he can also slowly start training on his rollers again. He will fill his days with training and exercises with the physiotherapist. To celebrate the good news, the team posted a video on Twitter. Evenepoel is having fun with thumping beats. “I have good legs: 50 watts”, he laughs.
“It is going well”, says Remco himself in a statement. “I am almost completely pain-free and I am already very mobile. I am happy that I can start working more focused again. My real rehabilitation is actually only starting now. I can work towards real cycling.”
For now, Evenepoel will stick to rides on the rollers. “If everything goes well and the weather improves, I can also go for a ride outside. But I’m definitely not going to take any risks in the rain. I don’t want to slip. My next goal is to do a real training on the rollers and then go out. ”
