Slovak handball player Lýdia Jakubisová played 127 matches in the national team, scoring 476 goals in them. She said goodbye to the national team on October 1, 2017 in Nitra in the second qualifying match of the European Championship 2019 against Poland (20:29). The experienced wingers watched closely the Thursday draw of the World Cup, but his result disappointed her.

The Slovak handball players will have a world championship in Spain in December, they will meet Germany, Hungary and the Czech Republic in the basic E-group. It was decided by Thursday’s night draw in the town of Castellón de la Plana. They will present themselves at the championship after being awarded a free card, which they received from IHF together with Poland.

For Slovaks, this will be the first start at the top event in seven years, when they participated in the 2014 European Championships in Hungary and Croatia. They will perform at the World Championships for the second time in the era of independence, 26 years have passed since their last start so far – they finished twelfth in 1995 at the championships in Austria and Hungary.

The player of the German Thüringer HC watched the draw closely and after the end she was not enthusiastic: “It looks as if they have drawn the European Championships and not the World Championships. Even when we got there, do we get such opponents? The Germans did not play well at the last championships, but I think that is still enough for us. The Hungarians had a fantastic European Championships, so there’s nothing about it. And Czech, that’s old famous music. Only if Jeřábková doesn’t play for them, it might be playable, ” she said Jakubisová for TASR.

The World Championships will take place from 2 to 19 December 2021, with venues from Castellón, Granollers, Llíria and Torrevieja. Up to 32 teams will present themselves for the first time. Of the eight basic groups, the first three teams will advance to the main phase, forming four six-member groups.
