/ world today news/ After a 4-hour meeting, a new candidate of the Reform Bloc for Minister of Education was never announced, reported a BGNES reporter.
The RB had gathered at an extraordinary meeting of the executive board at the SDS headquarters and discussed who should succeed the Minister of Education Todor Tanev, who, however, has not yet resigned.
BGNES reminds that the issue of nominating a new Minister of Education came about after Prime Minister Boyko Borisov demanded the resignation of Professor Todor Tanev on Thursday. The message of the Ministry of Justice states that Borisov made the decision after a meeting with the management of the RB, “Due to the systemic problems in the ministry and the sector, I think that the portfolio should be taken over by someone else. I called on my colleagues from the Reform Bloc to offer me a new team for the ministry by the end of the day to continue the reform. For me, as prime minister, it is unacceptable to make changes in the field of education that have not previously been subjected to a wide public discussion”, motivated the prime minister.
How will I submit my resignation? With these words, the Minister of Education entered the extraordinary meeting of the leadership of the Reform Bloc.
He emphasized that no one has yet asked for his resignation, nor has he met with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. Tanev was invited to a meeting a few days ago related to the educational part. At the current meeting with the reformers, they called him after he called them. He emphasized that it came from a Brahms concerto.
Tanev explained again that for 20 years, “the question of whether it is slavery or the presence of the Ottoman rule has been going around.” For 5 years, historians had not answered this question, and the Ministry of Education and Science did not invent these terms.
“There is a short and strong attack on the ministry. A proposal was adopted en masse without any thought as a decision of the Ministry of Education and Culture, which is a crime not against us, but against the children. They don’t leave us alone to finish the good work we have started so far”.
He also commented on the allegations that his deputy Vanya Kastreva visited London at the expense of the “America for Bulgaria” foundation. Tanev clarified that this is not a commercial company. Kastreva was in London at the end of last week, and her visit was because of the computers at school, it is not related to funding, but to the possibilities of the platforms, explained Tanev.
“The only systemic thing is 5 bills and the tightening of the faucet of the Scientific Research Fund, as well as BGN 1.3 billion secured,” Tanev boasted. “After all, I am a political scientist and I know that when there is turbulence, the unity of the ruling coalition must be strengthened by one method or another – they chose this one,” Tanev stated.
Upon entering, no one else from RB wanted to comment on which names would be discussed. It was unofficially claimed that one of the candidacies was Dimitar Tanev, former chief secretary of the Ministry of Education during the time of Daniel Valchev. Valchev’s name was also mentioned as a possible option. He told BNT that there should be no haste with such nominations, “It should be tonight or tomorrow (Friday, note ed.) The reform bloc will determine who will be the minister of education. We must hold consultations with the parties that support the government and then determine the name”, Valchev said.
Surprisingly for the Minister of the Ministry of Education, the name of Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva also came up. Milena Damyanova is also among the possibilities, but she is from GERB and it is assumed that her candidacy can be reached only if the reformers do not unite around one of their candidates.
