Britain’s Financial Times reported the intelligence leak on Tuesday (15/2/2022) even though Russian troops had begun to withdraw from near the Ukrainian border.
Citing an anonymous source in Western intelligence services, the outlet said Tsaryov, who served in Ukraine’s parliament until 2014, would be appointed head of state.

“Moscow may place Oleg Tsaryov, and others, in leadership roles as part of this effort,” the source said, as quoted by the FT.

According to the newspaper, his name appears in US intelligence material shared with Australia, Britain, Canada and New Zealand, all of whom are members of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance.

Tsaryov, who served in Ukraine’s Parliament for twelve years, was best known for running as a pro-Russian candidate in the 2014 presidential election until he resigned following attacks from Ukrainian nationalists.
