Coffee reduces the risk of heart failure
–
GridStar.ID – Who would have thought, the bitter drink of a million people is actually beneficial for health.
Yes, that’s right coffee seems to be a trendy drink.
But behind the trend, there are properties to reduce risk heart failure loh.
The more you drink coffee, the lower the risk of heart failure.
The research findings are published in the journal of the American Heart Association on February 9.
The researchers reviewed data from three studies, including 21,000 adult participants over 10 years.
Data from two studies showed that each cup of caffeinated coffee that participants drank in one day was associated with a 5-12 percent lower risk of heart failure, compared to participants who didn’t drink coffee.
Meanwhile, a third study found that the risk of heart failure was 30 percent lower in participants who drank two cups of coffee a day.
Interestingly, decaffeinated coffee did not have the same benefits, and one study linked decaffeinated coffee to a higher risk of heart failure.
From these studies, it can be seen that caffeine in coffee plays an important role in heart health.
That said Dr David Kao, assistant professor of cardiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Kao is the study’s senior author. “The link between caffeine and a reduced risk of heart failure is surprising,” said Kao.
“This is because coffee and caffeine are often considered to be bad for the heart because people associate them with palpitations, high blood pressure, and so on.”
Even so, the researchers stated, this study could not recommend someone who is not a coffee drinker to start “coffee.”
To maintain heart health, the best advice is to keep exercising, maintaining a healthy body weight, and not smoking, said Kao.
It is not clear how much coffee can provide optimal health benefits.
The reason is, this study relies on self-reported data, with no clear definition of how much coffee people consume per cup.
Researchers also did not collect data on coffee making methods.
Previous studies have found that coffee brewing methods such as filter brewing are likely to be healthier than other methods such as a stovetop or French press.
Apart from that, there are many benefits of coffee if it is drunk without mixture.
Coffee added to a syrup or latte mixture contains sugar and saturated fat.
These addictive substances can increase the risk of heart disease and eliminate the benefits of coffee.
“Enjoy coffee in moderation as part of a heart-healthy diet that includes fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat or non-fat milk, reduced sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar.”
So said Penny Kris-Etherton, a nutrition professor at Pennsylvania State University who was not involved in the study.

This study adds to growing evidence that drinking coffee regularly can improve heart health and prevent premature death.
Coffee also helps with weight loss, prevents cognitive decline with age, and provides protection against other chronic diseases such as liver disease and some cancers.
Besides caffeine, coffee also contains beneficial plant compounds called polyphenols, which are linked to antioxidant effects and reduce inflammation.
Previous research has shown that coffee is safe for consumption and has no long-term side effects, provided we drink less than five cups a day.
