Incredible statistics and two more slip-ups from Haaland
The match between the two fiercest title rivals of the past two years was marked by great drama. Arsenal turned Haaland’s lead around thanks to goals from defenders Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel.
After Leandro Trossard was shown a yellow-red card in injury time in the first half, the guests from London, who were outnumbered, concentrated exclusively on defence and, despite being significantly outnumbered (10 per cent possession, 1:28 shots on goal), were almost rewarded with the three points. Almost, because City centre-back John Stones scored the celebrated equaliser for the home side in the last minute of injury time.
Following the goal, Haaland’s emotions ran high. First, he threw the ball at the back of his opponent Gabriel’s head from close range, before he lashed out at Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly. Two scenes for which he was sharply criticized by the Gunners fans.
After the draw, City and Arsenal remain unbeaten in the new season. The champions from Manchester lead the table with 13 points, the runners-up from London are in fourth place with 11 points.
During the week both teams play in the League Cup, next weekend Arsenal hosts promoted Leicester City at home, Haaland and Co. are in action in Newcastle.
