Even Microsoft Runs Windows 11 on Unsupported PCs

Windows 11 has high minimum system requirements to run, so much so that not even the employees of the Microsoft are able to serve them. In a Windows Insider webcast, employee Claton Hendricks shared his screen to show system resources when he could see that his processor didn’t meet the company’s requirement.

Hendricks was showing the new color options for the Task Manager and other features in future builds of Windows 11. When he switched to the CPU info panel, however, he was able to see the Intel Core i7-7660U processor, which is not on the list support from Microsoft.

The 7th gen processor was released in 2017, and the system only supports 8th gen processors onwards. in the case of AMDMicrosoft requires Ryzen 3000 series chips or higher.

You can’t tell which device the employee was using in this case, whether it was a personal computer, a virtual machine, or a Surface — the screen sharing panel at the top showed “Surface IR.” According to the Neowin website, there is a high chance that you have used an original Surface Laptot, a Surface Pro 5 or models that are not on Microsoft’s list.

Minimum security requirements

It is worth remembering that the company allows running Windows 11 on PCs without official support. Despite this, the software giant does not guarantee full operation and points out that this can put the machine at risk, as security updates are suspended. Additionally, Microsoft can show a visual warning in the settings app and on the desktop if the person uses the non-compatible software.

As the snatch was taken during a webcast and the camera image was over the right corner, where the warnings usually appear, there’s no way to know if Hendricks’ PC had these warnings. On the other hand, as a developer, he may have access to some code or functionality that just hides the watermark.

Obviously this processor shouldn’t influence much on the performance of Windows 11, capable of running on much less beefy machines. Anyway, it’s curious to know that even the software giant can’t supply all the high needs of its system for all employees.
