It is expected to be the coldest of the week on the 15th as the morning temperature drops further. The lowest temperature in the morning is -16 degrees below -3 degrees Celsius, and the maximum temperature in the daytime is -6 degrees -4 degrees Celsius. An official from the Meteorological Administration explained that the cause of the cold wave is that the high pressure on the mainland of China is expanding, causing cold air to come down and driving a cold wave across the Korean Peninsula.
The Meteorological Administration predicted that the cold wave warning issued in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon region will continue until mid-week. Previously, the Meteorological Administration predicted this winter’s weather forecast that “December is colder than normal and the temperature may drop sharply due to the cold air in the north.”
In some areas, it snows with cold waves. From the 14th, snow falls mainly in Honam and Jeju due to the influence of the snow cloud zone developed in the west sea. The expected snowfall on the 14th and 15th was forecast to be 2~20cm across the west coast of Chungcheongnam-do, Jeolla, and Jeju. Depending on the region, it is expected that in places with high temperatures, it will rain as much as 5 to 20 cm and less than 5 mm instead of snow. As snow or rain falls amid the cold wave, the road is expected to become an icy road. An official from the Meteorological Agency said, “Because the roads are slippery due to a national cold wave and traffic can be very congested, you should pay special attention to warmth and safety on the way to work.” When walking on snowy or icy roads, do not put your hand in your pocket and refrain from using your mobile phone. Wear sneakers or hiking shoes with wide bottoms to minimize the risk of slipping. To prevent the water pipe from freezing, you should turn on the water little by little. If the water pipe is frozen, you can use lukewarm water or a dryer to dissolve it.
