New Delhi: The Central Government on Wednesday approved amendments in the National Livestock Mission Scheme by including various activities including providing up to 50 per cent subsidy to people and organizations for setting up enterprises related to horse, donkey, mule and camel. Under the revised National Livestock Mission Scheme, the Central Government will provide Rs 10 crore for setting up semen centers and breeding farms for horses, donkeys and camels.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters in Delhi that the Union Cabinet has approved the inclusion of additional activities in the National Livestock Mission (NLM) scheme. Under the revised NLM, subsidy up to 50 per cent i.e. up to Rs 50 lakh will be provided to individuals, farmer producer organisations, self-help groups and section 8 companies for setting up enterprises related to horses, donkeys, mules and camels.

Apart from this, assistance will also be provided to the state government for breed conservation of horses, donkeys and camels. Apart from this, the livestock insurance program has also been simplified. Anurag Thakur said that the beneficiary share of premium for farmers has been reduced. He said that the number of animals to be insured has also been increased from five to 10. According to the official release, this will facilitate the cattle owners to get their animals insured by paying minimum amount.
