MOSCOW – President Russia Vladimir Putin says even if Russian troops sink the destroyer English , it will not start a new world war because the Western powers know they cannot win such a war.
The Russian president called last week’s incident with a British Royal Navy destroyer in the Black Sea a “provocation” prepared jointly by London and Washington for reconnaissance purposes.
“In addition to the British destroyer Defender, a US reconnaissance plane took part in the incident,” Putin said bluntly while speaking on the annual Direct Line TV program.

He added, “The British destroyer entered Russian territorial waters during the day while in the morning, Russian radar detected a US reconnaissance plane taking off from Greece.
