The WWDC event takes place every year in early summer. It was usually a big face-to-face event with many thousands of visitors. At the beginning of the Covid-19 era, it was transformed into an online event, but this year some developers and interested parties can also attend the event in person.
As usual, the conference started with a main presentation, in which you will be able to explore the news in depth throughout the week. Most of the news is software and operating system updates, but there was also a new “iron” application. Apple has introduced a new model in its most popular laptop series, the Macbook Air. It has got a new flatter design and a new processor.
Just a few years ago, Apple announced plans to introduce its own processors for computers, and now virtually all of the company’s computers are equipped with one of the first-generation M1 processors. Although they are faster than previous Intel processors, Apple has already decided to release a new, even faster version, the M2.
This processor is on average 20% more powerful and consumes about the same amount of power (relatively very little). This allows the new Macbook Air to run for up to 18 hours on a single charge. The new computer is also equipped with an extremely fast charge, which allows 50% charging in just half an hour.
The good news is the return of the Magsafe magnetic charger for Macs. Such a connection is easily “broken” if the cord is accidentally caught. This can protect your laptop from unplanned drops.
As before, the computer is equipped with two USB-C ports.
The new Macbook Air will be available in a month. It is expected that their prices with the M2 processor will start from 1500 euros.
One of the most visible news awaiting “iPhone“Smartphones have customizable closed screen content. For the first time, you will be able to customize the look of your watch, as well as add smart gadgets and other information to your screen.
Another long-awaited news will be the ability to edit text messages that have already been sent. As well as the possibility to cancel a sent message.
Voice input has also been significantly improved, unfortunately it will not work in Latvian.
Also news in image recognition. Last year, Apple introduced the ability for devices to recognize text in any image. From now on, text can be recognized by video, as well as people, animals, and objects that can be automatically cut out or used for other effects.
Interesting innovations in car integration “CarPlayUntil now, connecting the iPhone to the car was able to manage maps, text messages and music. Apple says automakers are excited about the solution, but experience has shown that even “conventional” CarPlay manufacturers are reluctant to implement it.
Very happy news, the future of which is not yet clear, is the virtual keys offered by Apple instead of passwords. Passkeys is a new system that allows you to register and log in using a biometric system – a fingerprint reader or a facial recognition camera. This system would finally get rid of the “password nightmare” – the need to remember and manage many and complex passwords. Passkeys removes passwords on the merits. However, the success of the solution also depends on other manufacturers and developers – how quickly and how successfully they will integrate these “virtual keys”.
Apple has also found a somewhat clever solution to the problem. Most Macs have built-in mediocre cameras that don’t seem acceptable to many in this new age of video conferencing. The solution to this problem is to use the iPhone as a camera for your computer. All you have to do is attach it to the edge of the screen and your phone will become a camera and provide the best possible picture quality.
