“I want to work tirelessly with the sole purpose that Santa Cruz once again be the heart of Tenerife,” said Evelyn Alonso in her speech after taking possession this Friday of her act as a councilor for the Chicharrero City Council.
It was perhaps his most striking allusion; the motto of what was one of the most representative initiatives of the previous mandate of José Manuel Bermúdez. The plenary session has been tense, despite the constant words of welcome to the new mayor. Alonso chased away questions about a possible vote of no confidence, stating that it was not the time to talk about it. And Matilde Zambudio insisted that both will work within the government team, as indicated by Cs, the party of both. However, just an hour later, there was the first discrepancy in the vote of the 2 orange councilors. The motion that CC took for the City Council to demand that the Cabildo maintain the Ansina program and the jobs that it carries received the favorable vote of Evelyn Alonso, against the position of the PSOE and Zambudio. It also drew attention that the spokesperson for Unid @ s Podemos, Ramón Trujillo, also supported the motion, while the rest of her group voted against it.
In any case, the activity outside the plenary hall will be frantic in the coming days. Both CC and PSOE will negotiate with all their might to tip the balance of power in the Tenerife capital on their side, either by promoting a motion of censure or avoiding it. The PSOE is fully employed with the PP, which for the moment remains silent on the possibility of the mayors of Granadilla and Los Silos. And at the same time, it maintains the pressure on the leadership of Cs in Madrid and Evelyn Alonso himself to prevent CC from adding the necessary support for the motion of censure to go ahead.
