Ève Gascon writes a page in the history of the QMJHL

Goalkeeper Ève Gascon became the first woman in nearly 20 years to play a game in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), with the Gatineau Olympiques, on Thursday night, and she delivered a solid performance by not allowing a goal on 20 shots against his net.

The 18-year-old ahead of her teammates on the ice to start this preparatory meeting in front of her team’s cage, which hosted the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada for the occasion. The visitors finally won 5 to 1.

However, she had to surpass herself at the end of the first period, when the opponent benefited from a numerical advantage. She notably made a superb save by stretching the right pad to block a point-blank shot, much to the delight of the crowd.

Intensity

The intensity rose a notch at the start of the second period for the Armada, who attacked the opposing net with much more conviction. Gascon nevertheless continued his good work, standing up like a wall in front of his cage.

The second power play of the opposing team finally got the better of the young sensation. The Armada moved the puck quickly to score six seconds after a face-off. Alexis Bourque fired a sharp shot in the upper right corner of the goal to beat the goalie.

The young woman gave way to Thomas St-Germain in the middle of the second engagement. She ended her night of work with 19 saves on 20 shots in 29:14 of play. The mark was then equal to 1 to 1.
