On October 30th and 31st, the author and songwriter Jürgen Werth was a guest at the city church with a concert and he preached at the Reformation Day service.
When faith sets you free…
Then the soul can take a vacation – feel free, see the world with different eyes, live.
In his concert on Wednesday evening took part Jürgen Werth He took around 200 guests on a journey through stories he had experienced himself, which he processed into songs and book texts. This is how the listeners got to know his grandma and smiled at her humor. Everyone sang Werth’s first song, which is still a hit today: “You are you”. And many were also able to sing along to a song from the Josef musical that Werth wrote with the musician Johannes Nitsch: “That’s what reconciliation is like.”
Reformation Day was about the grace that God gives. Werth impressively told the story of Jan Rubens, who was convicted of adultery and who was released because of the loving letters from his wife, who completely forgave him. He was the father of Peter Paul Rubens. Sola gratia – grace alone – one of the insights of the Reformation. Werth also presented the other “soli” in a moving and moving way to the approximately 500 guests at the service: solus Christus, sola fide – faith alone, and sola scriptura – scripture alone. He had brought a song with him that told about these four solos and that the congregation sang together.
The choir, which had big plans for that day, took part in the service. In the morning service, three pieces from George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” were played. The choir immediately advertised the big festival concert in the evening, which was very well attended.
