Evan Fournier’s arrival in New York is in fact … a trade, details revealed!

Free agent at the end of his contract binding him recently to the Celtics, Evan Fournier had at first sight joined the Knicks free. By formalizing its arrival, the New York franchise has however evoked the existence … of a trade, the underside of which may surprise!

In addition to the particularly vague future of Frank Ntilikina, his situation was one of the main points of attention of the French public at the approach of the free agency. His contract of 5 years and 85 million dollars came to an end, Evan Fournier was spoiled for choice. Author of a remarkable end of the season among the Celtics, the French back was not lacking in contenders for his signing this summer.

It was ultimately to New York that he headed, signing a 4-year, $ 78M lease there. His arrival in the Big Apple, warmly welcomed by observers, however, was not done in the most logical manner. By making it official through a press release on Tuesday, the Knicks have indeed unveiled the backstage and stakes of this operation, which would actually turn out to be… a sign-and-trade!

The New York Knicks announced today that the team has secured full-back / winger Evan Fournier in a sign-and-trade with Boston, as well as two future Draft second-round picks in exchange for money. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Boston therefore does not emerge empty-handed from this affair, while NY recovers additional assets!
