On Monday afternoon, both NRK and TV 2 confirm to Medier24 that they are trying to get their correspondents Yama Wolasmal and Fredrik Græsvik out of the Afghan capital Kabul. This reports Media24.
Both Wolasmal and Græsvik are still in the Afghan capital.
Wolasmal tells in a recording of Dagsrevyen Monday night that he is now evacuated from the civilian part of the airport and safe in the military part.
– Lucky to have a Norwegian passport
– Yesterday was especially tough. I stood trying to get into the military part of the airport with several hundred desperate Afghans with family and children standing there like herring in a barrel. I stood for several hours at the gate until crews from the defense were able to evacuate me, Wolasmal told Medier24.
– I’m lucky. I have a Norwegian passport. It does not have the other desperate people who are here, he says.
Of course, we issue an ultimatum
Wolasmal had to cancel a planned live broadcast in Dagsrevyen no later than Sunday because he was “in a very challenging security situation”.
NRK’s foreign director Sigurd Falkenberg Mikkelsen tells Medier24 that they keep in constant contact with Wolasmal, and that they assess the situation on an ongoing basis.
– It is still a confusing situation. Safety is always the first priority for employees in the field, says Falkenberg Mikkelsen.
– Impossible to get to the airport safely
TV 2 is also working to get Græsvik home to Norway. Græsvik tells the news channel on Monday that he has tried to get out of the country, but that it is also demanding for foreigners.
– The vast majority of those who want to get out now will be rejected. It is difficult enough for us western citizens who have expressed a desire to leave Afghanistan, because it is virtually impossible to get to the airport safely under the prevailing conditions, says Græsvik to TV 2.
