Three apartment buildings in Vestre Torggate have been evacuated after cracks in a wall were observed on Monday afternoon.
– Cracks have been observed in the concrete. The cracks have recently occurred, and are in motion, says duty commander Christer Skei in 110 Hordaland.
He does not want to speculate on how big the danger is for the building to collapse.
The fire brigade was notified around 2 pm on Monday.
Geologist, landowner, police and fire brigade are on site, in addition to people from Bergen municipality.
The surrounding area is cordoned off for safety reasons.
64 housing units evacuated
The cracks must be observed in Vestre Torggate number 14. There is business activity and a total of 64 housing units in the evacuated buildings.
Police have evacuated the building in question, as well as the two adjacent buildings.
– The worst that can happen is that the house collapses due to settlement damage, says operations manager in the police, Stian Myrseth.
The evacuees are checked into hotels and are taken care of by the police in the first instance, before the municipality takes over.
